The decision to start therapy is as unique and personal as the individual or family considering it. Regardless of the reasons that bring someone to therapy, the ultimate goal is usually a version of “I want to feel better about my life, my job, and my relationships”. Therapy helps to create a safe place to explore thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behavior that impact one’s quality of life.

MY SPECIALTIES

There are many different evidence-based therapeutic techniques and all of them can be effective to help an individual learn to cope with their emotions.  Individual methods largely focus on adaptations to the individual’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to solve problems.  Here at Joyful Journey Counseling Services, we use a family systems theoretical approach.  This means that the individual is viewed as a part of a larger relationship system; this system can be a family, a marriage, a partnership, friendships, or work relationships.  The therapeutic work focuses on adjusting patterns within the system that are not functioning well in order to improve the quality of the relationship.  Interestingly enough, this ultimately affords the members within the system the ability to process and change thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and solve problems.

ABOUT ME

PXL_20221016_173704586.PORTRAIT.jpg
My name is Joy DiCosimo Addeo and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Prior to working in outpatient therapy, I worked in a variety of case management positions and human service professions.  One thing that I believe to be universal is a person’s desire to feel valued and understood.  For this reason, I really love working with family systems theory, and I strive to incorporate that into my practice with individuals, couples and families.

I currently live in Southern New Jersey with my husband and step-children.  My favorite activities are reading, especially historical fiction and stories about magic, and spending time outside hiking in the woods.  I also love chocolate, going out to eat with family and friends, and traveling to new places. Looking forward to the opportunity to work with you and help you along your journey!
